A Journey To The Cross
Station 8: GETHSEMANE
After the last supper, Jesus takes his disciples to the garden of Gethsemane. He prays for Himself, His disciples, and all of us who follow Him today. Read Luke 22:39-46 and then take a couple of minutes to look at the painting that represents Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane. Hold the weighted blanket or place the weighted blanket on your shoulders and imagine the great burden Jesus felt in this moment.
Notice that Jesus is wrestling with God and is in such agony that he is sweating blood. He wanted to obey God, but He knew that the journey ahead would be excruciating.
What is painful for you right now? What rocks are you carrying that you might be wrestling with God about? What obedience to God feels difficult right now? How does it feel knowing that Jesus felt like you and offers an example of obedience even in the midst of suffering?

Bonus For Kids
After he ate the last supper with his friends, Jesus took them to the garden of Gethsemane and asked them to pray with him. But they were so tired they fell asleep, so He prayed alone.
Jesus knew it would be painful to go to the cross and die for our sins. He felt a heavy weight like a pile of rocks on his shoulders. Put the weighted blank on your back, or hold it in your arms. Look at the picture and imagine that Jesus is carrying the weight of all the broken and wrong things in the world. But He is willing to carry it all because He loves us so much!
Have you ever had to carry something very heavy? How do you think Jesus felt? Write a picture/words to describe it. Don't forget to take a sticker for your book!
