A Journey To The Cross
Station 6: JESUS ANOINTED
It is about to be the Passover, which you celebrate every year by journeying to Jerusalem. Something seems to be changing- Jesus has been talking more about his suffering and death, but you don't fully understand yet what He means. Read John 12:1-8. Imagine that you are in the home of Mary and Martha again- the last time you were here was when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead! During the dinner party, Mary takes nard, a very expensive perfume, and pours it on Jesus' feet, wiping it with her hair. Jesus says she is preparing Him for His burial. Imagine how this makes you feel? Are you uncomfortable with Mary's expression of worship?
Take a moment and kneel on the floor, or sit on the bench by the table. Sometimes our worship of God is costly, like Mary's gift. How might God be asking you to worship Him with your life, your finances, your plans? Take a few moments to worship Jesus, thanking Him for who He is and what He has done for you. If you'd like, roll the perfume oil on your wrist or on a cloth to take with you, letting the scent remind you to worship God like Mary.

Bonus For Kids
Mary used some very expensive perfume to honor God. Not only that, she used her hair to wipe his feet! How would this have made you feel? Jesus said that she was preparing Him for his burial. How do you like to worship God? (Examples: Singing, dancing, thanking Jesus, etc.) Write it down in your book! Sit for a minute on the floor or bench and thank God for something. (Or you can get creative and sing Him a song, draw Him a picture, or whatever comes to your mind!) Then, take the perfume and role it on a piece of cloth- tape the cloth into your book and let the smell remind you to worship God like Mary!
