A Journey To The Cross
Station 12: DEATH & BURIAL
You've come to the end of the journey to the cross. Read Matthew 27:45-61 about Jesus's death and Mark 15:42-47 about His burial. Although we know how the story ends, Jesus's disciples did not fully understand why He died. They did not know a resurrection was coming.
Imagine again that you are with the disciples and you are thinking back on everything you have seen and heard with Jesus: His teaching, His miracles, His love, His kindness. When you walked with Him, you had hope! He was like a bright light in a dark world. But now, Jesus is gone. You are wondering what went wrong, and how the story could have ended like this? Didn't Jesus say He was the Son of God? Didn't He say He would had overcome the world?
We know that after Jesus died, the disciples were fearful and hid. As you try to put yourself in their shoes, blow out the candles on the table and stand for a moment in the darkness.
The Light of the World is gone.
When you are finished, exit through the doors on your right. If you feel that you would like prayer before you go, we have people in the lobby who are available to pray with you! If not, please exit quietly as we allow space for others to go through the journey as well.

Jesus finally died on the cross, and His body was taken down and placed in a tomb. The entrance to the tomb was covered by a giant rock. Even though we know that Jesus would eventually come back to life, His friends did not know this yet! They were sad, afraid, and maybe even a little angry that Jesus had died. Jesus was supposed to make everything right again! He was supposed to be the light of the world, but now He was gone.
How do you think you would feel if you were His friend and Jesus was gone? Take a minute to write down any thoughts you might have in your journal. Then blow out the candles and feel how dark it must have felt for the disciples. Then you can exit quietly. You can keep your journal to remember your journey to the cross!
